Welcome to Biosearch ...
part of the Quicksilver Group of companies
Biosearch began operations in February, 1986, with the aim of combining tourism, education and research. With 70% of the earth being covered by water, there is a growing realisation that this watery realm requires our respect if we are to interact positively with this environment for years to come.
As a basis for this respect, two key areas need emphasis - research and education. Research ensures that humans can evaluate their impacts on the environment. Education then disperses this research knowledge to the general public. Reef Biosearch is an organisation of qualified marine biologists and educators working in both these areas.
From it's inception in 1986, Reef Biosearch has worked hand in hand with Quicksilver Connections. We currently employ 12 full-time marine biologists, all of whom have a minimum qualification of a university degree majoring in biological science and a depth of experience in coral reef areas.
Within the group there exists a wealth of knowledge and experience in many fields of marine research and education, particularly relating to coral reefs. Reef Biosearch's activities may be broken down into many fields:
Educational and interpretive activities on board the Quicksilver vessels
Marine and reef education within: - the general community - schools - tourism industry training
Research and Environmental monitoring programs on the reef
Ecotourism consultation
Consultation and advisory roles to the reef management authorities; Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Dep't of Environment (EPA) and The CRC Reef Research Centre.
